Portland is considered an explorers island with many curiosities of history
and folklore waiting to be discovered. The island is 4.5 miles long
and 1.75 wide rising to 500 feet and slopes gently to Portland Bill which is
a haven for geologists and naturalists due to its ever changing
seascape.
Near by amenities include:
beaches, diving, windsurfing, sea angling, sailing & bird watching. Places of interests
include: the Portland museum and shipwreck exhibition, St Andrews ruin, the
Royal Navy cemetery and Portland Castle.
The nearby town of Weymouth
provides ample shops, restaurants and public houses as well as a fast ferry
to the Channel Islands.
